NIGEL BENN vs. MICHAEL WATSON (Site*)

Description : Here we have an very rare original main event poster that was handed out around the area in shop/pub premises to promote the fight, just slightly larger than the poster that was tied around local lamp-posts. It's an original Frank Maloney, 'World Sports Corporation' onsite promotional poster used for the eagerly awaited showdown between Britain's 2 top aspiring middleweights. Nigel Benn "The Dark Destroyer" was a full-on wreaking machine fan's favorite whilst the Challenger Michael Watson was viewed as the quite stylist of the two protagonists.

At 22-0 (22 KOs), Benn defended his Commonwealth title against Michael Watson in front of a rapid & frenzied fight crowd in a heavily hyped bout in May 1989 at Finsbury Park, London. Benn true to form tore out of the starting blocks unloading his trade make hooks with abandon, Benn repeatedly failed to get through Watson's tight guard, and gradually exhausted himself whilst being stunned numerous times by Watson's precision counters. In the sixth round, Watson knocked Benn down with a jab and a gassed out Benn was counted out as he rose to his feet, albeit by a somewhat hasty referee's count. But the writing was on the wall.
